Opening Keynote
Try TYPO3 they said, it’ll be fun they said.
A look at an open source community that’s been turning pizza into code (and doing some good in the world) since 1998.
In open source, we think about #free:
- as in #freedom (you are free to use it)
- as in #beer (the license fee is zero)
- and free as in #puppy (It comes with responsibilities. It's cute and fun when it's little, but things can get out of hand as it grows.)
If you come to open source, really get into it, and end up a contributor or maintainer, it feels a lot like being asked to look after a bunch of other people's puppies—for free—when you came for the beer. But at least it's usually hard, unpaid work, and you get to deal with needy community members who don't understand that you're doing it for love, not money ;-)
